Dye testing :

You might be wondering what is dye testing? This is when we apply the cleaning solution to a cloth and put it on top of the rug with a weight on it. We are trying to determine if this rug is going to be what we call in the industry a bleeder. If we determine the rug to be a bleeder we will try another cleaning solution and test it again. If it still show signs of dye transformation we will apply a special process on it called a dye block, this holds in the colors so we can hand wash the rug.

What can cause a rug to bleed? There are a number of factors :

1. Nomadic people making rugs using vegetable dye or other roots or plants they find in the wild. Even more in some cases the acid in uron is used to help create the desired colors and these rugs tend to bleed but they sure look good in the show room!

2. Once again the dreaded carpet cleaner that is only looking to make money by cleaning the rug in the house. This technician will use high PH chemicals to get the rug looking new and in some immediate situation the PH strips the colors off the rug immediately. So when this carpet cleaner cleans the rug in the house with the high PH cleaner he/she has to know a way to totally flush out the High PH which harms the fibers. Hopefully the next cleaner who cleans it can see immediate bleeding on the spot and guess who shop this rug usually shows up at when this happens, you guessed right, Genie Rug Care Services. This is why we test all rugs, even rugs we do not suspect will bleed. Now we're off to the artistry of hand washing your textile.
